City Council Approves $20,000 for Sun Valley Beautiful Gateways Project
City Grant Completes Funding

Sun Valley, December 20, 2005 – Sun Valley Beautiful today announced that it has received $20,000 in City Council grants, to complete funding for a series of four local medians that will grace the entranceways to Sun Valley.

Councilmember Wendy Greuel of Council District Two, and Councilmember Tony Cardenas of Council District Six have each directed grants of $10,000 from their Street Furniture Revenue Funds to fund the project.

The gateways will mark three heavily-trafficked entrances to the Sun Valley community: Cohasset and Glenoaks, Branford and Glenoaks, and Roscoe and the 170 freeway. The monuments will feature a sunburst rising from behind a mountain range and the design will be set within a stonework wall. Also featured on the monuments will be logos for the City of Los Angeles, the Sun Valley Chamber of Commerce, Sun Valley Beautiful and Rotary International.

Additional funds for the project came from local businesses and community groups, including Vulcan Materials, Sun Valley Paper Stock, Industrial Metal Supply Company, the Rotary Club of Sun Valley, Waste Management and Arthur Sweet, president of A&E Development Co., Inc. In-kind services will be provided by Angelus Block, Vulcan Materials, SV Equipment Rentals and People in Progress.

“Thanks to the councilmembers and the City of Los Angeles for coming through with the final funding we need,” said Jim Dean, chairman of Sun Valley Beautiful. “This project is one visible example of the positive changes that are happening in Sun Valley.”
