Sun Valley Gateways Project Is Underway
Community Boundary Monuments Will Let Motorists Know They’ve Arrived in Sun Valley

Sun Valley, November 7, 2005 – Site locations have been chosen and monuments have been ordered for the marble gateways that will mark three key heavily trafficked entrances to the Sun Valley community. The plans for the gateways will be sent to the City of Los Angeles for approval shortly and groundbreaking for the first project is tentatively scheduled for December. Sun Valley Beautiful is providing leadership for all planning and fundraising involved in the installation of the monuments and improvements to the medians.

The monuments, featuring a sunburst rising from behind a mountain range, will be set within a stonework wall and some of the medians will have drought-resistant landscaping. Also featured on the monuments will be logos for the City of Los Angeles, the Sun Valley Chamber of Commerce, Sun Valley Beautiful and the Rotary Club of Sun Valley.

Major funders for the project include Councilmember Tony Cardenas, as well as Sun Valley businesses and organizations, including Vulcan Materials, Sun Valley Paper Stock, Industrial Metal Supply, the Rotary Club of Sun Valley, AI Inc. (Integrated Wireless Solutions), and Waste Management. Additionally, Arthur Sweet, President of A&E Development Co. Inc, and a local businessman and property owner, generously donated $5,000. Angelus Block, Vulcan Materials, SV Equipment Rentals and People in Progress will provide in-kind donations.

“It is gratifying to see how quickly the Sun Valley business community has funded this project and the tremendous assistance that Councilmember Cardenas provided us,” said Jim Dean, Chairman of Sun Valley Beautiful. “Together, we are making Sun Valley a place to be proud of. Gateways will enhance this sense of community pride.”
