Sun Valley Beautiful Announces Gateway Projects as Newest Priority
Sun Valley, October 25, 2004 –
Sun Valley Beautiful (SVB), an initiative of the Sun Valley Area Chamber of Commerce today announced a new effort to improve the quality of life in Sun Valley. With the objective of beautifying Sun Valley and increasing community awareness and pride, SVB is partnering with the Rotary Club of Sun Valley and the Sun Valley Area Neighborhood Council to submit applications for Neighborhood Matching Fund grants that would make possible the construction of four "gateways" into Sun Valley. SVB has pledged to raise any money necessary to supplement the grant funds available from the City of Los Angeles.
The gateways, which would be located in four highly visible, highly trafficked areas of Sun Valley, would be made of marble and river rock, and would bear the logos and identity of the City of Los Angeles, Sun Valley Beautiful, and leading civic/service organizations. Common in many municipalities and other parts of the City of Los Angeles, Sun Valley lacks such landmarks and identifiers today. The community is located in an industrial corridor between the I-5 and 210 freeways, and is bi-sected by the Metrolink rail line.
"Sun Valley is a crossroads community in many ways. We want people to know where we are and we want them to know Sun Valley is a quality community in which to work and to live," stated Jim Dean, chairman of Sun Valley Beautiful.
"It's a natural for us to support this project. It fits perfectly with what this Neighborhood Council is trying to do for our community," said Dennis O'Sullivan, President of the Sun Valley Area Neighborhood Council.
Marian Pettee, Executive Director of the Sun Valley Area Chamber of Commerce added, “The Chamber is excited about working to get gateways in Sun Valley. We strongly believe the gateways will help attract new businesses to Sun Valley, foster community pride for existing business and make the area a better place for our workforce."
Sun Valley Beautiful and its partners plan to construct the four gateways at the intersections of Glenoaks Boulevard and Cohasset Street/Avenue; Sunland Boulevard and Stonehurst Avenue; Laurel Canyon and Webb Avenue/Street; and Roscoe Boulevard and the 170 Freeway.
