Sun Valley Beautiful Members Volunteer to Help Address LA County’s Critical Pollworker Shortage
Sun Valley, October 19, 2004 –
Sun Valley Beautiful (SVB), an initiative of the Sun Valley Area Chamber of Commerce, today announced that its members have volunteered their support to the LA County Corporate Pollworker Program.
Employee volunteers of both the Chamber and SVB’s member companies will be deployed this November 2nd in Sun Valley and throughout LA County (with full pay from their employers) to make sure polling locations are adequately staffed to meet voters' needs.
At its September meeting, SVB members learned of the shortage of pollworkers for the upcoming elections. In LA County, there is an overall need for over 2,000 pollworkers and a serious shortage of volunteers exists at the present time.
Jim Dean, chairman of Sun Valley Beautiful, stated, "The November election will elect a President for our country, but it is also critical to vote on matters of local importance. We vigorously support voter education and outreach, and ultimately, the public's ability to vote on matters critical to our safety, health, economy, education and environment."
