EARTH DAY CELEBRATION BRINGS OUT LOCAL RESIDENTS
Snow Cones, Fun and Games Convey Serious Message About Environment
Sun Valley, April 22, 2006 –
The third annual Sun Valley Earth Day Festival and Expo sponsored by Sun Valley Beautiful brought together residents today at the Sun Valley Recreation Center. Festival-goers enjoyed live entertainment, great music, tasty treats and educational activities to celebrate environmental responsibility in the community. Also on-site was the Providence Holy Cross Medical Center mini blood mobile for a community blood donor drive.
“The Earth Day Festival and Expo is a chance for neighbors in Sun Valley to come out and have fun while celebrating a good cause,” said Lily Lee, president of Sun Valley Area Chamber of Commerce. “This event is also a great way to highlight the exciting developments in the works here in Sun Valley.”
The day kicked off at 10 am with greetings from Councilmember Tony Cardenas and a flag presentation by the Poly Color Guard. xRadio broadcasted live from the event while rapper Prophet X shared center stage with hip-hop artist Coco and other musical talents. Additional performers included the Vinedale Elementary School student Folklorico group along with the parents’ dance group. The Sun Valley Recreation Center staff also showcased karate demonstrations in ten-minute routines that wowed audiences. Residents toured 30 interactive booths promoting health, education and environmental awareness. City and county workers were also on hand to educate residents about stormwater, waste water, animal control and other public health issues.
