Sun Valley Area Businesses Announce Formation of
Sun Valley Beautiful Organization Will Strive for Environmental and Public Health in Community

Earth Day Expo on April 17th Kicks Off SVB Activities

Sun Valley, April 12, 2004 – Today, a coalition of business owners in the Sun Valley area announced the formation of an organization dedicated to beautifying Sun Valley and improving the quality of life of the residents in this San Fernando Valley community. The group also announced its first public information and education event, the Earth Day Expo, set for Saturday, April 17, from 10 a.m. until 2 p.m., at Sun Valley Park.

Sun Valley Beautiful is an initiative of the Sun Valley Area Chamber of Commerce and will focus attention on three areas: environmental beautification, public health enhancement, and education and public information. Sun Valley Beautiful seeks to create partnerships and collaboration between business, community and civic groups. The initiative resulted from ongoing efforts of a cross-section of companies that drive employment and economic activity in Sun Valley and the northeast San Fernando Valley.

“We have been actively searching for ways to promote environmentalism and support the communities we serve,” said Mary Lou Steinfeld, President, Sun Valley Area Chamber of Commerce. “Sun Valley Beautiful serves as an opportunity for those of us who live and work in Sun Valley to renew our commitment to the health of our community, and to shine a light on the many positive developments taking place," Steinfeld added.

"Vulcan Materials welcomes the opportunity to partner with Sun Valley Beautiful and the community to fulfill the common goal of increasing environmental stewardship,” said Todd Spitler, Community Outreach Manager for Vulcan Materials Company.

City of Los Angeles Councilman Tony Cardenas, CD 6, praised the group’s leadership, stating, “I’m happy to see companies that have operated in Sun Valley for many years begin to listen to and work with the community. I’m looking forward to other companies and community organizations joining Sun Valley Beautiful.” Cardenas added, “Jobs, taxes, environmental innovation and clean-up, and partnership with the community are keys to ensuring Sun Valley’s ongoing vitality for decades to come.”

Sun Valley Beautiful also announced that it is co-sponsoring (along with Councilmember Tony Cardenas) Sun Valley’s first-ever Earth Day Expo on April 17th. Business and community leaders will join friends and neighbors on April 17th from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. for a day of family fun and environmental consciousness at Sun Valley Park. The Expo will focus attention on the environment, public health, recycling and other earth and people-friendly programs. Sun Valley residents will also learn what they can do to help their community become more environmentally aware. The Earth Day Expo will feature environmental and public health information dissemination, entertainment, display booths, food vendors and much more.
