COUNCILMAN TONY CARDENAS & SUN VALLEY BEAUTIFUL BRING EARTH DAY CELEBRATION TO COMMUNITY
Face Painting, Fun and Games Convey Serious Message About Environment
Sun Valley, April 10, 2008 – Councilman Tony Cardenas and Sun Valley Beautiful invite local residents, businesses, their employees and families to the Sun Valley Earth Day Fair on April 19 at the Sun Valley Recreation Center. Organized by Sun Valley Beautiful of the Chamber of Commerce, the event is free. Sun Valley residents and business owners will enjoy live music, free food, tree planting demonstrations and educational activities to celebrate environmental responsibility in the community.
"Once again, our Earth Day Fair in Sun Valley Park is a chance for Sun Valley residents to come out and have fun while celebrating a good cause and increasing environmental awareness," said Ted Bradpiece, President of the Sun Valley Chamber of Commerce. "It is the perfect opportunity to renew our commitment to the health of our community."
The day will kick off at 9 a.m. with an Aztec tree blessing and Councilman Tony Cardenas planting 10 trees at the Sun Valley Recreation Center. The stage program begins at 10 a.m. with Maureen Sanchez and her mariachi band singing the National Anthem, a reptile zoo show-and-tell at 11 a.m. with Brett Wilson, and winners of the 2008 essay and poster contests winners being presented at noon. The day will be filled with live dance and music performances: Sun Valley Elites Drill Team and Drum Squad; Aztec Dance Group Kalpulli Xochiyaoyotl; Meagan, Brittany & Vassas; Hazze Hip Hop Dream; Flor Veneno, and Music L.A.'s Dakah Institute for Symphonic Hip Hop.
Over 400 trees will be planted by TreePeople, the Los Angeles Conservation Corps' Clean & Green and the Hollywood Beautification Team. Residents will also have the opportunity to tour interactive booths promoting health, education and environmental awareness, including a demonstration by the City of Los Angeles' Recycling Division of Public Works. Children will have the chance to climb on board a Waste Management truck.
